Frontierra Selected for UK Space Agency Climate Services Funding
In August 2023, the UK Space Agency announced funding for 10 innovative climate services projects, each using Earth Observation data, satellite technology, and artificial intelligence to help businesses and organisations understand and respond to environmental risks. Frontierra was among the 10 organisations selected.
Each project received funding of up to £55,000 to begin development in September 2023, as part of a total £530,000 investment representing the UK Space Agency's second tranche of direct funding into climate services development.

Frontierra's Project
Frontierra was funded to develop a cloud-based service enabling corporations and financial institutions to undertake a low-cost, rapid assessment of their climate impact, with a focus on biodiversity and nature-related risks, dependencies, and opportunities.
This sits at the heart of what Frontierra does. Using satellite data, AI, and advanced geospatial analysis, Frontierra delivers location-specific climate risk assessments and nature risk and opportunity assessments for financial institutions, corporates, and investment managers worldwide. Where many tools assess risk at a sector or regional level, Frontierra's approach is tied to the precise footprint of each asset, providing the depth and accuracy that frameworks such as ISSB, TCFD, the EU Taxonomy, and TNFD increasingly demand.
Frontierra's Climate and Nature Intelligence Platform is the cloud-based environment where clients upload asset or site locations and access climate and nature risk intelligence at the asset level, across global portfolios.
The Wider Programme
The 10 projects funded under this call covered a broad range of environmental challenges, each using Earth Observation and satellite data to address a specific area of climate risk or environmental monitoring.
Agreed Earth Ltd developed a solution to remotely model and monitor nitrous oxide emissions from agricultural land using Earth Observation and machine learning.
EOLAS Insight Ltd built an automated mapping and reporting service for watercourse climate resilience, helping organisations understand the effects of global temperatures on local watercourses.
Map Impact Ltd developed a catchment-wide view for freshwater management, using multiple data sources to forecast climate change and pollution impacts on habitat biodiversity and human health.
Sparkgeo UK created an automated methane monitoring service to measure and monitor emissions across areas of interest and alert stakeholders when levels exceed acceptable thresholds.
Agtelligence developed FarmScore, an Earth Observation-based assessment system to measure environmental indicators on farmland and unlock green financing opportunities.
Omanos Analytics built a service integrating community narratives and Earth Observation data to deliver social context on the impact of climate change across different demographic groups.
Capterio developed a satellite-enabled tool for tracking and reducing gas flaring and methane emissions from global oil and gas supply chains.
GeoSmart Information Ltd created an automated groundwater-level forecasting system using Earth Observation to support flood and drought management.
Stellarsat Ltd developed a framework using data and AI tools to assess the exposure of critical energy infrastructure assets to physical climate risks.
